st Corinthians 10

For I, brothers, do not want you to be ignorant, about how all our fathers were under the pillar (of a) cloud (by day leading their way), and all passed through the sea;

And were all baptized into Moses (the servant of the Lord) in the cloud and in the sea;

And did all eat the same spiritual meat (from heaven which was Christ);

And all drank the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

But with most of them God was not well pleased (who after seeing His works for forty years continued in unbelief): for they were overthrown (with corruption) in the wilderness (unto their own destruction).

Now these things were (written for) our examples, so that we should not lust after evil (harmful) things (that perish and cannot ever serve us with His life), as they also lusted (after that which served them with the fruit of death).

Neither be idolaters (worshipping the works made of your own hands), as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play (bringing corruption to themselves by building a golden calf and worshipping it).

Neither let us commit fornication (with other gods), as some of them committed, and fell twenty-three thousand (of them) in one day.

Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted (Him after seeing His works continued in unbelief, saying, is the Lord with us or not?), and (brought destruction upon themselves and) were destroyed of serpents.

Neither murmur (speaking lies against God), as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer (not of God).

Now all these things happened to them as examples: and they are written for our (instruction) warning (us), upon whom the culmination of the world (filled with death and corruption) comes (in Christ’s return).

Therefore let him who thinks he stands (not be high-minded but with reverence toward God) consider this warning (examining himself that he be in the faith) lest he fall (into temptation).

There has been no temptation that has come to you but that (which comes from the death in your flesh) which is common to (all) man: but God (who has already stood in the face of death for every man) is faithful, who will not allow you (that see you have no ability to save yourself from death but rather look to Him) to be tempted above that you are able; but has provided (Himself and the certainty of His indestructible life) in the midst of the temptation as the way to escape (the death and corruption that’s in the world through lust), so that you may be able to endure it.

Therefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry (from fellowship with those things which have no ability to rescue you from death and exalt you unto life).

I speak as unto wise men; judge (discerning) what I say.

The cup of blessing (and life) which we bless (and partake); is it not our communion (and fellowship) with the blood of Christ? The bread that we break; is it not our communion (and fellowship) with the body of Christ?

For we that are many (members) are (born from) one bread and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread (Christ Jesus our Lord).

Behold Israel after the flesh: are they not which eat of the sacrifices, partakers of (and fellowshipping with) the altar (in service to God)?

What do I say then? That the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?

But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: I do not want you to have fellowship with devils (to strange gods).

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord (which is unto blessing and life) and the cup of devils (that brings corruption and death): you cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils (for what fellowship has light with darkness).

Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy (by looking to those that are no gods at all)? Are we mightier than Him?

All things are permissible for me (and within my power to do), but not all things are profitable (unto eternal life): all things are permissible for me, but not all things edify (and build up).

Let no man seek his own (welfare), but (let) every man (consider) his neighbor's good.

Whatever is sold in the meat market, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:

For the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof.

If any of them that do not believe invite you to a feast, and you want to go; whatever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.

But if any man says to you, This (meat) is offered in sacrifice to idols, do not eat for the sake of him that disclosed it (to you), and for (his) conscience sake (alone): for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof:

(When) I say conscience, I do not (mean) your own (which would not be defiled by eating), but of the (sake of the) others (conscience): for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?

For if I with thankfulness am a partaker, why am I spoken slanderously of for that which I have given thanks (to God)?

Therefore whether you eat, or drink, whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.

(So that you) give no reason to stumble (at the truth), to either the Jews, or to the Gentiles, or the church of God:

In the same way, I desire to make myself acceptable to all men in all things, I do not seek my own profit, but the profit of many, so that (by any means) they may be saved.
