1 Thessalonians 1
1 Paul, and Silas, and Timothy, to the church of the
Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: (His)
Grace (and strength) is unto you, and peace (that brings rest
inside of the unity which comes) from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus
Christ.
2 We give thanks to God (the Father) always for you
all, making mention of you in our prayers;
3 Remembering without ceasing the work which the faith
has done in you, even your labor (which comes) from the love (of
God for all people), and the patience (which is born) from the
hope (you have) in our Lord Jesus Christ, (to stand blameless)
before the God and our Father of us all (in His love and full of His
glory);
4 Knowing, brethren beloved (of the Father), that
this is the life chosen of God for you (from the beginning).
5 And how that the gospel we preached did not come
to you in word only, but (that same word which was made flesh in Christ
Jesus our Lord) was also (confirmed in us) by the power (of
God and His love unfeigned) and in (the pouring out of) the Holy
Ghost and in full assurance (of the truth and the certainty of His life),
even as you saw what sort (of men) we became among (and toward)
you for your sake.
6 And you became followers of (the same way as)
us, even (as we were followers) of the Lord Jesus, having received
the word in much (tribulation and) affliction, (you received it)
with joy that comes from the Holy Ghost:
7 So (much so) that you (yourselves)
became examples to all that believed (upon the Lord Jesus) in
Macedonia and Achaia.
8 Because from (the joy and the hope that)
you (have in the midst of tribulation it) has sounded out (a
loud proclamation, declaring) the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia
and Achaia, but also (reverberating) in every place the work that
the faith has done in you to (manifest the fruit of) God (and His
life and peace toward you) has gone forth all over the world; so (much
so) that we need not to speak anything.
9 For those things alone show us what manner of
entering in we had unto your hearts, and how you turned to God from idols (that
had no ability to rescue you from the death and affliction you were
experiencing) to serve (and be served) by the living and true
God;
10 And to wait (patiently) for (the
arrival of) His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even
Jesus, which delivered us from (death and) the wrath to come (against
death in the last day).
