2nd Corinthians 1
1 Paul, an
apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the
church of God, which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all
Achaia:
2 (His)
grace be (multiplied)
to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Blessed be the God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God from whom comes all (compassion and) comfort;
4 Who comforts us (with
the certainty of His life and immortality)
in all our tribulation, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in
any trouble, by the (same)
comfort with which we ourselves are comforted of God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us (who
live and are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake),
so also our consolation (and comfort)
abounds through (the fellowship of)
Christ (suffering unto the life and
immortality of Jesus even unto our mortal body).
6 And if rather we are afflicted (facing
death and peril every day), it is for your
encouragement and salvation (in Christ),
which is effective in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also
suffer: or rather if we are comforted (by
Him), it is for your consolation and
salvation (by the same hope we have in
Christ).
7 And our hope of you is sure, knowing that as
you are partakers of the sufferings (of
Christ), so shall you also be
partakers of
the consolation.
8 For we would not have you ignorant, brothers,
of the affliction that came to us in Asia, (so
much so) that we were pressed in
excessively, above (our)
strength, so that we utterly considered our lives to be lost:
9 Yes, we were under the sentence of death within
ourselves, so that we should not trust in ourselves, but (only)
in the (grace and strength of)
God, the One who raises the dead:
10 Who delivered us from so great a death (in
Christ), and does (still)
deliver: in whom we hope (and trust)
that He will also yet deliver us (from the
corruption in our mortal bodies);
11 You also (will
boast) joining together in prayer for us,
so that because of the grace bestowed on us through the
prayers of many
persons, thanksgiving may be given (to God)
by many on our behalf.orinthians
1
12 For our boasting is (shown
in) this; the testimony of our conscience
(toward God),
that in simplicity and godly purity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by (always
relying upon) the grace (and
strength) of God, we have shown our manner
of life in the world, and now more abundantly to you.
13 For we write no other (hidden)
things to you other than what you (plainly)
read or acknowledge (declaring Christ and
Him crucified); and I trust you shall
acknowledge even to the end (unto the day
our Lord’s return);
14 As some of you also have acknowledged our teachings, so that your boasting is the same as our boasting (and we will rejoice together with you) in the day of the Lord Jesus.
15 And with this confidence, I was intending to come to you before, so that you might have a second benefit;
16 And to pass by (and
visit) you on the way to Macedonia, and (then)
to come again to you on my way out of Macedonia, and to be escorted by you
on my way to Judaea.
17 When I was therefore planning (to
come), did I use fickleness (as
some say)? Or are the things which I
purpose to do in the flesh, do I purpose according to
mere human plans,
so that with me there might be yes yes (today),
and no no (tomorrow)?
18 But as God is (always
faithful and) true, so our word (in
Christ) toward you was not yes (today)
and no (tomorrow).
19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was
preached among you by us, and even by me and Silas and Timothy, was not yes
(today)
and no (tomorrow)
but in Him was (always)
yes.
20 For all the promises of God in Christ are (always)
yes, and in Him (always)
Amen (a certainty),
to the glory of God by us.
21 Now the One who establishes us along with you
in Christ, and (also)
has anointed us (able ministers of the New
Testament), is God;
22 Who has also sealed us (and
marked us), by giving us the (advance
deposit) guarantee of the Spirit in our
hearts.
23 Moreover, I call upon God as a witness on my
soul, that to spare you (lest I make you
sorrowful), I have not yet come to
Corinth.
24 Not that we have rule over your faith, but we
are helpers of your joy: for (most
certainly it is) by the faith (of
Christ) you stand.
