2 Timothy 1
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise (that was from the beginning) of His life (which promise was made immortal flesh) in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 To Timothy, my beloved son: grace, mercy and peace that comes from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 I am thankful to God, whom I serve from my ancestors with a pure conscience (filled with His goodness and desire toward me to serve me with His life), (for your genuine and unconcealed faith), that without ceasing I have remembrance of you in my prayers night and day;
4 Longing to see you, remembering your tears (when I departed), so that I may be filled with joy (upon seeing you again);
5 When I call to remembrance the sincere faith that is born in you (undisguised and free from hypocrisy), which (faith) first dwelt in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice; I am persuaded that it dwells in you also.
6 Therefore I put you in remembrance (unceasingly) that you might stir up (kindling the flames of) the gift from (the Spirit of) God that is in you, from the laying on of my hands.
7 For God has not given us the spirit of cowardice (and fearfulness) but of (boldness, that His Spirit in us is the) power (that even overcomes the death in our flesh) and of love (in that He laid down His life for us so that He might raise us up with Him) and of self-control (which is a sound mind that rests in His strength to overcome all things and not our own).
8 Therefore you do not need to be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, or of me a prisoner (for His sake): but a partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the (true) power (and strength behind your life, which is the Spirit) of (the living) God (where you do not need to enlist your own strength and ability to preserve your life);
9 Who has saved us (from death), and called us with an holy calling (setting us apart for the only life He ever saw fitting for His children, to appear in the likeness of His life and immortality), not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was (promised and) given us in Christ Jesus before the world began (before death entered),
2 Timothy
10 But is now made manifest (in flesh in the resurrection) by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death (in the flesh), and has brought life and immortality to light (shining upon our hearts) through the glorious gospel (of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ):
11 To which (gospel) I am appointed (and compelled) to declare (to all people), as an apostle, and a teacher (of the Gentiles).
12 For the sake of the gospel I also suffer these afflictions, but I am not ashamed because I know (the One) whom I have believed (whose testimony overcomes the death in the world) and (therefore) I am persuaded that He is able to keep (me and) that which He has committed to me unto the day (of the Lord).
13 Grab hold of (the faith and continue hearing) the (only) form of sound words (and doctrine), which you have heard from me (and which are able to keep you) in the faith and the love that is only found in Christ Jesus (our Lord).
14 And that good thing which was committed to you (will) keep (you) by the Holy Ghost which dwells in us.
15 Know this, that all in Asia have turned away from (the persecution that comes from association with) me (and the gospel I declare), among whom are Phy-gel’lus and Her-mog’e-nes.
16 The Lord give mercy to the house of On-e-siph’o-rus; for he has often refreshed (and comforted) me, and was not ashamed (of the gospel or) of my chains (for its sake):
17 To the extent that when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
18 The Lord gives (mercy) to him so that he may (know and) find mercy (in the face) of the Lord (Jesus Christ) in that day (of His coming): and about the many things he ministered to me at Eph’e-sus, you know very well.
