Hebrews 5
1 For (it is required that) every high priest (be)
taken from among men (seeing as they) are appointed for men in things pertaining to God, so
that they may offer both gifts and sacrifices for (sanctification from) death:
2 Who (also partaking of suffering as a man) can have compassion
on the ones who are ignorant, and on them that are (willfully going)
out of the way; because he himself is also clothed with the infirmity (of
the body of death).
3 And for that reason, just as he is obligated (to
make an offering) for the people, so also (must he make an offering)
for himself, for (sanctification from) death.
4 And no man receives this honor from himself, but
he must be called of God, as was Aaron.
5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to be made
a high priest; but the Father said to the Son, “You are My Son (from
all eternity), today have I
begotten you”, (sending
the Son into the world to partake in flesh and blood so that He might be a
mericiful and faithful high priest).
6 (Exactly) as He also said in another place, “You are a
priest (to the world) forever after
the order of Melchisedec” (without beginning
of days or end of life).
7
Who in the days of His flesh, when (He suffered being put to death in
flesh),
He offered up prayers and true humility (from a meek and lowly heart)
with strong crying and tears to Him that was able to save Him from death (in
His flesh), and was heard (in His resurrection from the dead)
in that He revered (to do the Father’s will, declaring the divine counsel
of God, as the perfect high priest);
8
Though He always existed (in perpetuity) as the Son, yet He learned
obedience (as a man) by the things which He suffered (in flesh,
for in that He Himself has suffered being tempted, He is able to rescue
those that are tempted to preserve their lives);
9 And having been made perfect (a
merciful and faithful high priest who is able to sanctify the people from
death) He became the author of
eternal salvation unto all of those who hearken diligently to (hear
the divine counsel of)
Him;
10 Called (and appointed) by God, a high
priest after the order of Melchisedec (who,
without beginning of days, now sits forever in the power of an endless life
in immortal flesh).
11 Concerning whom we have many things to say (to
you), which are hard to be understood and difficult to be interpreted,
seeing as you are slothful (not being diligent) in your hearing.
12 For by this time when you ought to be teachers,
you (still) need someone to teach you again the beginning teachings
of the utterances of God (contained in the law which were always pointing
to Christ); and have become like babes that still have need of milk and
cannot handle strong meat.
13 Because everyone that (has been slothful in
their hearing) needs milk and are without experience or understanding (still
being ignorant) of the word (contained in the law that spoke)
of God’s righteousness towards us to (provide Himself the lamb that
would cleanse us from death once and forever and) serve us with His life
and immortality (as our inheritance): for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongs to those who are
of full age (mature), the ones who have had their senses exercised (after
having grappled with an unconcealed heart are persuaded by the word
contained in the law of God's righteousness toward them and who now look to
the faith of Jesus Christ and are able) to discern between that which is
born from the word of life and that which brings death.
