Luke 10

 

1 After these things, the LORD also appointed another seventy and sent them out two by two before His face into every city and place, where He Himself would come.

 

2 Therefore He said to them, The harvest truly is plentiful (the hearts of men and women are ripe, hungering for the life they have always desired and which the Father has called them to), but the laborers are few: pray therefore that the Lord of the harvest would send forth laborers into His harvest.

 

3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

 

4 Carry neither purse, nor money, nor shoes: and do not (stop and) salute any man along the way.

 

5 And into whatever house you enter, first say, Peace be upon this house.

 

6 And if the son of peace (a house destined for peace) resides there (one receptive of your blessing of peace from the kingdom of God), your peace shall rest on it: if (they reject your peace considering themselves) not (worthy of the kingdom of God), it shall return to you again.

 

7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer (good or evil) is worthy of his (just) wage. Do not go from house to house.

 

8 And into whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat the things set before you:

 

9 And heal the sick that are there, and say to them, The kingdom of God has come near to you.

 

10 But into whatever city you enter, if they do not receive you, go on your way out into the streets of the same (city), and say,

 

11 Even the very dust of your city, which sticks on us (our feet), do we wipe off (as a testimony) against you: although you can be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near to you.

 

12 But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city (that saw miracles and heard the gospel yet would not receive).

 

13 Woe (grief) to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which were done in you, they would have repented a great while ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes (which testify of your sorrow for making the works of your hands, your food for life, seeing that from the dust you were made and apart from God, to dust you would return).

 

14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the (day of) judgment than for you (who hear the gospel of the kingdom and reject Christ your Savior).

 

15 And you, Capernaum, shall you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be thrust down to (the grave in) Hades.

 

16 He that hears you hears Me; and He that rejects you rejects Me; and He that rejects Me rejects Him (the Father) who sent Me.

 

17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us through your name.

 

18 And He said to them, I beheld Satan fall as lightning from heaven (to earth).

 

19 Behold, I give you power to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy (in the earth): and nothing shall by any means hurt (or injure the life I give to) you.

 

20 Nevertheless, in this do not rejoice, that the (demon) spirits are subject to you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven (in the book of life).

 

21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced with the Holy Spirit, and said, I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent (in their own estimation), and have revealed them to little children (and simple-minded): Yes, Father; for so it seemed well pleasing in your sight.

 

22 All things are delivered to Me from My Father: and no man knows who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal Him.

 

23 And He turned to His disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see:

 

24 For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which you hear and have not heard them.

 

25 And, behold, a certain doctor of the law stood up, to tempt Him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

 

26 He said to him, What is written in the law? How do you read?

 

27 And he answering said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and (love) your neighbor as yourself.

 

28 And He said to him, You have answered right: do this, and you shall live.

 

29 But the lawyer, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?

 

30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his clothing, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead (on the side of the road).

 

31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

 

32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked at him, and passed by on the other side.

 

33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

 

34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

 

35 And on the next day when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said to him, Take care of him; and whatever you spend additionally, when I come again, I will repay you.

 

36 Now, which of these three do you think was a neighbor to him that fell among the thieves?

 

37 And he said, He that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus to him, Go, and do you likewise (so that you may be like your Father in heaven).

 

38 Now it came to pass, as they traveled, that He entered into a certain village (called Bethany): and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house.

 

39 And she had a sister named Mary, who also (welcomed Him and) sat at (the Lord) Jesus' feet, and (was listening intently) to hear (and understand) His word.

 

40 But Martha was distracted (and drawn away from the Lord, being preoccupied) with much serving, and came to Him, and said, Lord, do you not care (about me and) that my sister has left me alone to serve? Speak to her, so that she might help me.

 

41 And the Lord (Jesus, beholding Martha, loved her and) answered, saying to her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things (that will all perish with use):

 

42 But (only) one thing is needful: and Mary has chosen that good part (which is to harken diligently to hear and be persuaded of the word of eternal life), which shall not ever (see decay or) be taken away from her.
