Luke 17

 

1 Then He said to the disciples, It is impossible (in a world still filled with death and corruption), but that stumbling blocks will come: but woe (calamity) to him, through whom they come!

 

2 It is better for him if a millstone were hung about his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should cause one of these little ones (who believes in Me) to stumble (at the truth).

 

3 Be on guard yourselves: If your brother trespasses against you, admonish him (with the truth that Christ has lifted the weight that death can bring to his heart); and if he repents (from his trespass, to preserve his own life), forgive him (sending his offence away).

 

4 And if he trespasses against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turns to you again, saying, I repent; you shall forgive him (sending away his offence brought by death, as Christ has sent away your offences).

 

5 And the apostles said to the Lord, Increase our faith.

 

6 But the Lord said, If you had (the) faith (revealed in Me) as (small as) a grain of mustard seed, you might say to (a tree as large as) this sycamine tree, Be plucked up by the root, and be you planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

 

7 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say to him, when he has come in from the field, Go and sit down and recline?

 

8 And will you not rather say to him, Make ready what I might eat, and fasten your garment, and serve me, and when I have eaten and drunk, then afterward you shall eat and drink?

 

9 Does he thank that servant because he did all the things that were commanded him?

 

10 So likewise you, when you will have done all those things which are commanded you (as in forgiving one another’s trespasses), say, We are unprofitable servants (unable to produce an incorruptible life within ourselves): we (need God’s grace and mercy even when we) have done (all) that was our duty to do.

 

11 And it came to pass, as He went to Jerusalem, that He passed through the middle of Samaria and Galilee.

 

12 And as He entered into a certain village, there met Him ten men that were lepers, who stood at a distance:

 

13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

 

14 And when He saw them (in their affliction, having compassion on them), He said to them, Go show yourselves to the priests (as a testimony that God has healed you). And it came to pass that, as they went, they were (all) cleansed (from their leprosy).

 

15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,

 

16 And fell down on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving Him thanks: and he was a Samaritan (a stranger).

 

17 And Jesus answering, said, Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the other nine?

 

18 There is no one found that returned to give glory to God, except this stranger.

 

19 And He said to him, Arise, go your way: your faith has made you (completely) whole (lacking nothing).

 

20 And when He was demanded by the Pharisees, (to tell them) when the kingdom of God should come, He answered them and said, The kingdom of God does not come with observation:

 

21 Neither shall they say, See here! Or see there! For behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

 

22 And He said to the disciples, The day will come, when you shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and you shall not see it.

 

23 And they shall say to you, See here; or see there: go not after them, nor follow them.

 

24 For as the lightning, that lightens out of the one part under heaven, and shines to the other part under heaven; so, shall also the Son of man be (seen) in the day of His (return).

 

25 But first He must suffer many things and be rejected of this (adulterous) generation (of vipers).

 

26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

 

27 They ate, and drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed all of them (who refused to enter).

 

28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;

 

29 But the same day that (righteous) Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed all of them (who refused to repent and not look back).

 

30 Even so shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed (from heaven with His mighty angels).

 

31 In that day, he who shall be on the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

 

32 Remember Lot's wife (who looked back and returned to dust).

 

33 Whoever shall seek to save (preserving) his life (in the world, by looking to himself) shall (perish and) lose it; and whoever shall lose (laying down) his life (in the world, by looking to Me and My life) shall preserve it (forever in Me).

 

34 I tell you, in that night (when the Son of man is revealed from heaven) there shall be two in one bed; the one shall be taken (gathered to Christ), and the other (who has rejected Him) shall be left (to their own destruction).

 

35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be received (to Christ), and the other (who refuses Him) left (barren).

 

36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other (who refused Him) left (desolate).

 

37 And they answered and said to Him, Where (will this destruction happen), Lord? And He said to them, Wherever the body (of the dead) is, there will the vultures be gathered together (to eat their flesh).
