Luke 22

 

1 Now the feast of unleavened bread was drawing near, which is called the Passover.

 

2 And the chief priests and scribes (secretly) sought how they might kill Him; for they feared the people.

 

3 Then Satan entered into Judas surnamed Iscariot, who was (one) of the number of the twelve.

 

4 And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them.

 

5 And they were glad and agreed to give him thirty pieces of silver.

 

6 And he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the crowds.

 

7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover (lamb) must be killed.

 

8 And He sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat (together).

 

9 And they said to Him, Where do you desire that we prepare it?

 

10 And He said to them, Behold, when you have entered into the city, there you shall meet a man, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters.

 

11 And you shall say to the manager of the house, The Master asked of you, Where is the guest room, where I can eat the passover with My disciples?

 

12 And He will show you a large upper room furnished: there make (the Passover meal) ready.

 

13 And they went and found it (exactly) as He had said to them: and they made the passover ready.

 

14 And when the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

 

15 And He said to them, With (great) desire I have desired to eat this passover (meal) with you before I suffer:

 

16 For I say to you, I will not eat it again, until it be fulfilled in (the glorification of My body) the kingdom of God.

 

17 And He took the cup (of suffering), and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

 

18 For I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall (fully) come (in the heavenly banquet).

 

19 And He took bread, and gave thanks, and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, This is My body which has been (prepared for and joined to humanity) given for you (for your deification): do this in remembrance of Me.

 

20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the New Testament (the testimony of My death whereby I have sanctified you) in My blood, which is poured out for you (to send away your death, so that you would participate in My life).

 

21 But (not all of you), behold, the hand of him that betrays Me is with Me on the table.

 

22 And truly the Son of man goes, as it was determined: but woe (grief and sorrow) to that man by whom He is betrayed!

 

23 And they began to question among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

 

24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be regarded as the greatest.

 

25 And He said to them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority on them are called benefactors.

 

26 But it shall not be so (with you): but he that is greatest among you, let him (humble himself to) be as the younger (of lower estate); and he that is chief, as one that does serve (others).

 

27 For (by the world) who is (considered) greater, he that sits at dinner, or he that serves? Is it not he that sits at dinner? But (consider that) I am (both Lord and Christ and) among you as One that serves.

 

28 You are those who have continued with Me in My (trials and) temptations (so shall you also reign with Me).

 

29 And I (shall) appoint to you the kingdom, as My Father has appointed to Me;

 

30 So that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

 

31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you, so that he may sift you as wheat:

 

32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith does not fail: and when you are converted, (you will) strengthen your brothers.

 

33 And he said to Him, Lord, I am ready to go with you, both into prison, and to death.

 

34 And he said, I tell you, Peter, the cock will not crow this day, before you will deny three times that you know Me.

 

35 And he said to them, When I sent you without purse, and money, and shoes, did you lack (or need of) anything? And they said, Nothing.

 

36 Then He said to them, But now (when I am taken from you), he that has a purse, let him take it, and likewise his money: and he that has none, let him sell his garment, and buy a sword.

 

37 For I say to you, that this which is written (by Isaiah) must still be accomplished in Me; And he was counted among the transgressors: for the things (written in the scripture) concerning Me have an end (a determined purpose and shall be fulfilled).

 

38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And He said to them, It is (more than) enough.

 

39 And He came out (from dinner), and went, as was His custom, to the mount of Olives; and His disciples also followed Him.

 

40 And when He was at the place, He said to them, (Watch and) pray so that you do not enter into temptation.

 

41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down, and prayed,

 

42 Saying, Father, if you are willing, remove this cup (of suffering and death) from Me: nevertheless, not the will of My flesh, but (My desire is that) Your will be done (on earth as it is in heaven, that My divinity would heal humanity from the infirmity of death).

 

43 And then there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him (and refreshing Him).

 

44 And (though also fully divine, even so His humanity) being in anguish (tasting the natural aversion to death in their flesh for every man), He prayed more earnestly: and (sharing in our griefs and sorrows brought by death) His sweat became like great drops of blood falling to the ground.

 

45 And when He got up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow,

 

46 And said to them, Why do you sleep? Get up and pray (also with me to the Father), lest you enter into temptation (the burden to care for your own lives).

 

47 And while He yet spoke, behold a multitude (came), and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.

 

48 But Jesus said to him, Judas, do you betray the Son of man with a kiss?

 

49 When they who were with Him realized what would follow, they said to him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

 

50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.

 

51 And Jesus answered and said, Allow them to go this far (that all might be fulfilled). And He touched his ear and healed him.

 

52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which had come to Him, Do you come out, as against a thief, with swords and clubs?

 

53 When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not stretch forth your hands against Me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness (does work in you).

 

54 Then took they Him, and led Him, and brought Him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed from a distance.

 

55 And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the hall, and had sat down together, Peter sat down among them.

 

56 But a certain maid looked at him as he sat by the fire, and intently looked on him, and said, This man was also with him.

 

57 And he denied Him, saying, Woman, I do not know him.

 

58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, You are also of them (His disciples). And Peter said, Man, I am not.

 

59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with Him: for he is a Galilaean.

 

60 And Peter said, Man, I do not know what you are saying. And immediately, while he yet spoke, the cock crew.

 

61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, Before the cock crow, you shall deny Me three times.

 

62 And Peter went outside and wept bitterly.

 

63 And the men that held Jesus mocked Him and struck him.

 

64 And when they had blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face, and asked Him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that struck you?

 

65 And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him (reviling and slandering Him).

 

66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led Him into their council, saying,

 

67 Are you the Christ? tell us. And He said to them, If I tell you, you will (still) not believe:

 

68 And if I also ask you (a question that gives you the answer), you will not answer Me, nor let me go.

 

69 But from now on shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

 

70 Then said they all, Are you then the Son of God? And He said to them, You say (correctly) that I AM.
