Mark 11

 

1 And when they came near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, He sent out two of His disciples,

 

2 And said to them, Go your way into the village before you: and as soon as you have entered into it, you shall find a colt tied, upon which no man has ever sat; loose him, and bring him (to Me).

 

3 And if any man asks you, Why do you do this? say that the Lord needs him; and straightaway he will send him here.

 

4 And they went on their way, and found the colt tied by the door outside by the street (just as He had said); and untied it.

 

5 And certain of them that stood there said to them, What are you doing untying the colt?

 

6 And they said to them even as Jesus had commanded (the Lord needs him): and they let them go.

 

7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments on it; and He sat on it (and the scriptures were fulfilled that said, Your King comes to you with salvation, lowly, riding on a colt).

 

8 And many spread their garments in the way (putting off their old garments to be clothed in the new): and others cut down (palm) branches off the trees (which was proclaiming Him their King and victor over death) and threw them in the way.

 

9 And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna (Oh save us now); Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord (from heaven):

 

10 Blessed (to be praised) is the kingdom (spoken) of (by) our father David, that comes in the name of the Lord (from heaven): Hosanna (to the King who brings salvation and perfection from) in the highest.

 

11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when He had looked around on all things, and now the evening was come, He went out to Bethany with the twelve.

 

12 And on the next day, when they had come from Bethany, He was hungry:

 

13 And seeing a fig tree far off having leaves (which leaves presented the promise of fruit), He came, if by chance He might find anything on it: and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.

 

14 And Jesus answered and said to it, May no man eat fruit from you from now on forever (He spoke to the tree as if to the wisdom Adam partook of in the garden which could not ever bear the fruit of eternal life but only death). And His disciples heard it.

 

15 And they came to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to throw out (removing) them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;

 

16 And would not allow that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.

 

17 And He taught, saying to them, Is it not written, My house shall be called by all nations the house of prayer? But you have made it a den of thieves (born from the wisdom of the serpent, the thief, who steals, kills, and destroys).

 

18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it and began to seek how they might destroy Him: for they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His doctrine.

 

19 And when evening had come, He went out of the city.

 

20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree (He cursed) dried up from the roots.

 

21 And Peter, having remembered, said to Him, Master, behold, the fig tree which you cursed is withered away (from the roots, signifying how the fig tree whose wisdom brought the curse of death would be condemned and wither away in the flesh of Jesus).

 

22 And Jesus answered and said to them, Have (the) faith from God (which faith has come to everyone in Me).

 

23 For truly I say to you, That whoever (receives the faith they behold in Me) shall say to this mountain (of death and corruption in the world), Be removed (sent away from me), and be cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe that those things which he said are done (in Me); he shall have what he said (in Me).

 

24 Therefore I say to you, Whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you (have) received (the thing your heart has always longed for in Me), and you shall have (the thing you truly desire).

 

25 And when you stand praying, forgive (seeing the offense was brought by death), if you have anything against anyone (send it away from them): so that (you might see that) your Father in heaven also has forgiven you (sending away) your trespasses (brought by death).

 

26 But if you do not forgive (seeing death as responsible), neither will (you see that) your Father which is in heaven (has) forgiven (sending away) your trespasses (brought by the same death).

 

27 And they came again to Jerusalem: and as He was walking in the temple, there came to Him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,

 

28 And said to Him, By what authority do you do these things? And who gave you this authority to do these things (forgiving sin, overthrowing tables and removing the money changers from the temple)?

 

29 And Jesus answered and said to them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

 

30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? Answer Me.

 

31 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; He will say, Why then did you not believe him?

 

32 But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men viewed John, (believing) that he was a prophet indeed.

 

33 And they answered and said to Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering said to them, Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
