Mark 5

 

1 And they came over to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

 

2 And when He had come out of the ship, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

 

3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not even with chains:

 

4 Because that he had been often bound with restraints and chains, and the chains were ripped apart by him, and the restraints broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

 

5 And continually, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

 

6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped Him,

 

7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I in common with you, Jesus, the Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by (the name of) God (you possess), that you do not torment me (before the time).

 

8 For He said to him, Come out of the man, you unclean spirit.

 

9 And He asked him, What is your name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

 

10 And he begged Him many times that He would not send them away out of the country.

 

11 Now there was there near to the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.

 

12 And all the devils pleaded with Him, saying, Send us into the swine, so that we may enter into them.

 

13 And immediately Jesus allowed them to leave. And the unclean spirits went out and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, {they were about two thousand (swine);} and were drowned in the sea.

 

14 And those that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they (from the city) went out to see what had been done.

 

15 And they came to Jesus, and saw Him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion (of demons), sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

 

16 And those who saw it told them how it happened to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.

 

17 And they began to ask Him to depart out of their coasts.

 

18 And when He had come into the ship, He that had been possessed with the devil asked Him if he might be with Him.

 

19 However, Jesus did not allow him, but said to him, Go home to your friends, and tell them how the Lord has done great things for you, and has had compassion on you.

 

20 And he departed and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men (he told) did marvel.

 

21 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship to the other side, many people gathered to Him: and He was near to the sea.

 

22 And, behold, there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus; and when he saw Him, he fell at His feet,

 

23 And begged him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death: I pray you, come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be healed; and she shall live.

 

24 And Jesus went with him; and many people followed Him and crowded Him.

 

25 And a certain woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years,

 

26 And had suffered many things from many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was not any better, but rather grew worse,

 

27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched His garment.

 

28 For she said, If I may touch but His garment, I shall be whole.

 

29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

 

30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that virtue had gone out of Him, turned Himself around in the press (of the crowd), and said, Who touched My garment?

 

31 And His disciples said to Him, You see the multitude crowding you, and ask you, Who touched Me?

 

32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing.

 

33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her (could have only been done of God), came and fell down before Him, and told Him all the truth.

 

34 And He said to her, Daughter, your faith (in My divinity) has made you whole; go in peace and be whole of your plague.

 

35 While He yet spoke, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain who said, Your daughter is dead: why trouble the Master any further?

 

36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, Do not be afraid, only believe (that I have power even over death and your daughter shall be made whole).

 

37 And He allowed no man to follow Him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

 

38 And He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw the chaos, and those who wept and wailed greatly.

 

39 And when He had come in, He said to them, Why do you make this ruckus, and weep? The little girl is not dead, but (her body) sleeps.

 

40 And they laughed at Him to (mock and) scorn. But when He had put them all out, He took the father and the mother of the little girl, and those who were with Him, and entered in where the little girl was lying.

 

41 And he took the little girl by the hand, and said to her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Little girl, I say to you, arise.

 

42 And straightaway the little girl arose and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with great astonishment.

 

43 And He charged them sternly that no man should know about it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
