Romans 5
1 Therefore, being justified (unto life) by (the)
faith (of Jesus Christ, which keeps our hearts blameless from the
accusation that comes from death that we are not the children of God), (whereby)
we have peace (and unity) with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access through (the)
faith into this grace wherein we (receive strength to) stand and
rejoice in (the sure) hope of the glory of God (to be revealed in
us).
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations
also: knowing that (in the midst of) tribulation (this faith)
works patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And (the sure) hope (of His glory
revealed in us) makes us not ashamed (when death and tribulation come
to us), because the love of God (whereby He poured out His life for
us) is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given to us.
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time
Christ (through the eternal Spirit offered Himself up and) died for
the ungodly (those without hope or reverential fear of God).
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet
perhaps for a good man some would even dare to die.
8 But God demonstrated His (great) love
toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners (enslaved by death),
Christ (offered Himself up and) died for us.
9 Much more therefore, having been now justified by
His blood, we shall be delivered by Him from (death and the) wrath (against
death on the last day).
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled
to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled (back
to peace where we can find unity with God), shall we be saved by (abiding
in) His life.
11 And not only (being reconciled to the glory
which is to come) but also rejoicing now (boasting) in (our
union to) God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now
received (restoration and unity in) the atonement (which gives us
the certainty of the same bodily immortality).
12 Wherefore, just as by one man (Adam) sin
entered into the world, and death (entered) through sin (the
transgression which missed the mark of God's way unto life); and so,
death passed on all men, because (in Adam joining mankind in union to
death) all have sinned (falling short of the glory of God even
immortality in their flesh):
13 {Because until the law (was given to Moses)
sin was in the world: but sin is not charged (as the thing responsible
for death) when there is no law.
14 Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses,
even over those that had not sinned after the similarity of Adam's
transgression, who is the figure of Him that was to come (the former
destructive and the latter redeeming man back to their proper image and the
way unto the tree of life).
15 But also the free gift is not like the trespass.
For if through the trespass of the one (man Adam) many died, much
more by the grace of God (coming in the flesh), and the gift by
grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ (the God man), shall many
superabound (over death unto everlasting life).
16 And the free gift is not like it was by the one
who transgressed (the way unto life): for by one was the judgment
which brought the condemnation (of death), but the free gift is the
justification (that you are as you ought to be by looking to the
equitable deed of Christ in crying out to the Father which brings the
certainty) of life from many offenses.
17 For if by one man's (Adam's) offense death
reigned by one; much more all those who (lay hold of and) receive the
abundance of grace (available to all men) and of the gift of (His)
righteousness (the only life He ever saw fitting for us, His children)
shall (superabound over death and) reign in (the power of an
indestructible) life by one, Jesus Christ.}
18 Therefore, just as by the trespass of one, the
judgment of death (and condemnation) was to all men, even so by the
righteous (act) of one (Jesus Christ) the free gift has come
to all men to justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience (of the way
unto life) many were made sinners (enslaved by the death which
entered), so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous (free
from death unto immortality in their flesh).
20 Moreover, the law entered, so that the
transgression (might be clearly seen as the thing that made death)
abound. But where sin abounded, (the) grace (and strength of God
which came in dying flesh) did superabound (over the death):
21 So that just as the trespass has reigned in
death, even so might (the) grace (of God) reign through
justification unto eternal life (and bodily immortality) by (the
resurrection of) Jesus Christ our Lord.
