John 12

Then six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany, (the place) where Lazarus lived who had been dead, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.

There they made him a (banquet) dinner, and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat (and reclined) at the table with Jesus.

Then Mary took a pound of ointment (made) from spikenard, (which was) very costly (and precious), and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair: and the (entire) house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment (perfume).

Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, who would (later) betray Him, said,

Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii (a Roman coin), and given to the poor?

He said this, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and held the bag (of money), and took from what was put into it.

Then Jesus said, Leave her alone: she has kept this (ointment for this very day so that she might prepare My body) before the day of My burial.

For the poor will always be with you, but you will not always have Me (for I am with you yet a little while).

Many people of the Jews therefore knew that Jesus was there: and they came not only because of Jesus, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom He had raised from the dead.

But the chief priests took counsel that they might also put Lazarus to death;

Because he was the reason that many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus (as the Messiah).

On the next day, many people who had come for the (Passover) feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet Him, and cried (in Hebrew saying), Hosanna (meaning, Oh save us now): Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

And Jesus, when he had found a young donkey (colt), sat upon it; as it is written (about Him in Zechariah),

Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, your King comes, sitting on an ass's colt.

(All) these things His disciples did not understand at first: but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things unto Him.

The people therefore that were with Him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.

For this reason also the people met Him, because they heard that he had done this miracle.

Therefore the Pharisees said among themselves, Do you see that you have accomplished nothing? behold, the (entire) world is gone after Him.

And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:

They came therefore to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee and desired of him, saying, Sir, we would (like to) see Jesus.

Philip comes and tells Andrew: and then, Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified (with the same glory He had with the Father before the world began so that He might bring many sons to glory).

With absolute certainty, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone (a single grain of corn): but if it (falls into the ground and) dies, it brings forth much fruit (after its own kind). (Except God, the only immortal, could come, the Son of man in the likeness of perishable flesh, possessing the incorruptible seed of His life, and take that death and corruption into the grave, He would remain alone the only immortal. But if He could take that dying flesh into the grave, and rise in flesh that can never die again, He will bring forth much fruit after His own kind unto life and immortality in their flesh for all those who believe upon the testimony of the Son).

He that loves the life (that he can bring forth within himself, laboring to preserve it) will lose it (for that is a perishable life), and he that hates the life from this world (but only looks to the life the Father can serve him that never perishes) will keep it unto everlasting life (and bodily immortality).

If any man (desires to) serve Me (the One sent from the Father), let him follow (the faith of) Me; and where I am, there will My servant be also: if any man serves (and honors) Me (the One who has come in My Father's name), him will the Father honor.

Now My soul is troubled; and what should I say (that would honor My Father’s name)? Father, save me from this hour?: (But no) because it is for this (very) reason that I have come to this hour (so that I might glorify the Father’s name).

Father, glorify Your name (in Me). Then (as He spoke) there came a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again (speaking of the resurrection).

Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it thundered: (while) others said, an angel spoke to Him.

Jesus answered and said, this voice did not come for My sake, but for your sakes.

Now is the judgment of this world (and the death that reigned over mankind): now will the prince of this world (who planted deaths’ mentality) be (bound and) cast out.

And I, if I am lifted up from the earth (on a tree), I will draw (and take) all (the death and corruption that entered into) men unto Myself (that is, into My body, so that I can extinguish it).

This He said, signifying what (manner of) death He was about to die (on a cross).

The people answered Him, We have heard out of the law that Christ (lives and) abides forever: and (if you be the Christ) how do you then say, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

Then Jesus answered them saying, For yet a little while is the light (of the world) with you. Walk while you have the light (of His life which is able to guide you with certainty), So that darkness does not come upon you (and overtake you): for he that walks (and abides) in darkness does not know (or see) where he goes.

While you still have light, believe in the light, so that you may be the children (born) from light. These things spoke Jesus, and (He) departed, and hid Himself from them.

But though He had done so many miracles (right) before their eyes, yet they did not believe on Him:

That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke (prophesying about the Lord Jesus, who is the arm of the Lord), Lord, who has believed our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

Therefore they (that abide in darkness) could not believe, because what Isaiah said again,

Darkness has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart; that they should not see (clearly) with their (carnal) eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and (thereby) heal them (purging them from all iniquity and death).

These things said Isaiah when he saw His glory and spoke (prophesying) of Him.

Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on Him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him (openly), for fear they would be put out of the synagogue:

For they loved the praise (and approval) of men more than the praise (and approval) of God.

Jesus cried and said, He that believes on Me, believes not on Me, but on My Father that sent Me.

And he that (truly) sees Me sees Him that sent Me.

I AM come a light into the world, that whoever believes on Me should not remain in darkness (but have the light of My life which lives and abides forever).

And if any man hears My words, and does not believe, I do not judge him: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world (from perishing in death).

He that rejects Me and receives not My words (from the Father), has (only) one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same (word) will judge his own heart in the last day.

For I have not spoken of Myself; but (the words that I speak are filled with the Spirit and life of) the Father who sent Me, He gave Me a commandment, (whereby) what I should say, and what I should speak (be only what I hear from Him).

And I know that His (only) commandment is life everlasting: therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father said to Me, is exactly what I speak.
