John 17
1 These words Jesus spoke, and He lifted up His eyes toward heaven, and
said, Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son (with Your life),
so that Your Son also may glorify You (before all men):
2 As You have given Him power over all flesh so that He should (glorify
You and) give eternal life to as many as You have given Him (to all
those persuaded by the testimony of the Son that the Father is also with
them to give them the same life and immortality).
3 And this is life eternal, that (abiding in Me, the Son) they might
know (intimacy with) You the only true God (and Father), and
Jesus Christ (His Son), whom you have sent (in Your name, the
express image of Your person).
4 I have glorified You on the earth (as Father): I have finished the
work which You gave Me to do (of eternal life so that as many as You have
given Me might be One as We Father are One).
5 And now, O Father, glorify You Me with Yourself with the glory which I had
with You (from all eternity) before the world existed.
6 I have manifested Your name (Everlasting Father, that you are merciful,
gracious, longsuffering and abundant in goodness and truth) to the men
which You gave Me out of the world: Yours they were, and You gave them to
Me, and they have kept Your word.
7 Now they have known (with certainty) that all things, whatever
things You have given Me come from You.
8 For I have given to them the words (that are spirit, and that are life)
which You gave Me (to speak); and they have received them, and have
known for certain that I came out from You (Father), and they have
believed that You did send Me.
9 I pray for them: I do not pray for the world, but for them which you have
given Me (from out of the world); for they are Yours.
10 And all (that are) Mine are Yours, and (all that are) Yours
are Mine, and I am glorified in their hearts.
11 And now that I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and
I come to You. Holy Father (the source of all life and immortality),
keep through Your own name those whom You have given Me (set apart for
that life), so that they may be One, as We are.
12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name: those that
You gave Me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of
destruction, so that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13 And now I come to You; and these things I speak (while I am still)
in the world, so that they might have My joy fulfilled in themselves (the
hope of the same life and immortality in the flesh that they see in Me).
14 I have given them Your word (of truth and life); and the world has
hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the
world.
15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You
should keep them (abiding in Your love where they are kept free) from
the evil (that is in the world, tempting them to preserve their own
lives, but where they rest in My word and testimony that You Father are also
with them to care for their lives even unto immorality in their flesh in the
resurrection).
16 They (whom You have given Me) are not (born) from (the
life they can gain from the things in) the world, even as I am not (born)
of the world.
17 Sanctify them (unto the life which they were set apart for)
through Your truth (and life revealed in Me): Your word is truth (and
the way unto the life that is made immortal flesh in Me).
18 As you have sent Me into the world (filled with death and corruption),
even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself (Holy, set apart unto Your
indestructible life), so that they (who are also set part unto life)
also might be sanctified (from the death and corruption in the world)
through the truth (that You love them just as You have loved Me).
20 Neither do I pray for these alone, but also for them which will believe
on Me through their word (which testifies of Me);
21 That they all may be (united as) one (body, and one spirit);
as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be one in Us: so
that the world may believe that You have sent Me (in your name).
22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them; so that they may be
One, even as We are One:
23 I in them, and You in Me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that
the world may know that You have sent Me (in Your name Father), and
have loved them, as You have loved Me.
24 Father, I will that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I
am; that they may behold My glory, which You have given Me: for You loved Me
before the foundation of the world (from all eternity).
25 O righteous Father (You have loved the world by sending Me, Your only
begotten Son), the world has not (seen or) known You: but I have
known You, and these have known that You have sent Me.
26 And I have declared to them your name (Abba), and will declare it:
that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I in them (so
that no man may ever pluck them out of Your hand).
