John 20

On the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb, when it was still dark, and saw the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken away the Lord from out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.

Peter, therefore, went with that other disciple and they came to the tomb (together).

So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter and came to the tomb first.

And stooping down, he looked in, and saw the linen clothes lying; yet he did not go in.

Then Simon Peter came following him, and went into the tomb, and saw the linen clothes lying there,

And the napkin, that was about His head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

Then the other disciple, who came first to the tomb, also went in and he saw, and believed (He had risen).

For until then they did not know the scripture (spoke of Him, which said, You will not leave My soul in hell neither will you allow your Holy One to see corruption), so that He must rise again from the dead.

Then the disciples went away (from the tomb and returned) again to their own home.

But Mary stood outside at the tomb weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the tomb,

And (she) saw two angels (cherubim) in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, (over the place) where the body of Jesus had laid (an image like the High Priest saw behind the second veil of the earthly tabernacle, called the Holy of Holies, which contained the ark of the covenant over which the cherubims of glory shadowed the mercy seat).

And they said to her, Woman, why do you weep? She said to them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.

And when she therefore had said this, she turned herself around, and saw Jesus standing, and did not   know that it was Jesus.

Jesus said to her, Woman, why do you weep? whom do you seek? She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, Sir, if you have taken Him from here, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away.

Jesus said to her, Mary. She turned herself, and said to Him, Rabboni, which means, Teacher.

Jesus said to her, Do not handle Me (or cling to me now); for I have not yet ascended to My Father: but go to My brethren, and say to them, I ascend unto (the right hand of) My Father, and your Father; and to My God, and your God.

Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.

Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst of them, and said to them, (My) peace be with you (all).

And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples (fear left and they) were glad when they saw (it was) the Lord.

Then Jesus said to them again, (My) peace be with you (always): (for) as My Father has sent Me (into the world), even so do I send you.

And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, Receive you the Holy Ghost:

Whoever (believes on Me, their) sins you (declare) sent away, they are sent away from them; and whoever (rejects Me, their) sins you (declare) retained, (for) they will remain.

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus (the twin), was not with them when Jesus came.

The other disciples therefore said to him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Except I can see the nail prints in His hands and put my finger into the print of the nails (myself), and thrust my hand into His side, I will not (be persuaded to) believe.

And after eight days again His disciples were again in (the room together), and Thomas was with them: then Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, (My) Peace be with you.

Then He said to Thomas, Reach with your finger, and behold My hands; and reach with your hand, and thrust it into My side: so that you will not be without faith (any longer), but believing.

And Thomas answered and said to Him, my Lord and my God.

Jesus said to him, Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed (upon Me, the certainty of that which is not seen).

And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book:

But these (things) are written, so that you might believe (and be certain) that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of (the living) God; and that believing you might have (eternal) life through His name (and immortality in your flesh upon His return).
