John 21
1 After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the sea
of Tiberias; and this is the way He showed Himself.
2 There together were Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael
of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of His disciples.
3 Simon Peter said to them, I am going fishing. They said to him, We will
also go with you. They went together and entered into a ship immediately;
and that night they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the
disciples did not know that it was Jesus.
5 Then Jesus said to them, Children, do you have any meat (fish)?
They answered Him, No.
6 And He said to them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you
will find (some). They cast therefore (on the right side), and
then they were not able to pull it because of the great multitude of fish.
7 Therefore (seeing the miracle) the disciple who (knew) Jesus
loved (him) said to Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard
that it was the Lord, he pulled up his fisher's coat to him, {for he was
naked} and did cast himself into the sea.
8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; {for they were not far from
land, but were about two hundred cubits} dragging the net with (the
multitude of) fish.
9 As soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish
laid there on, and bread.
10 Jesus said to them, Bring (some) of the fish which you have just
caught.
11 Simon Peter went up, and pulled the net to land full of great fishes, an
hundred and fifty-three: and even though there were so many (fish),
yet the net was not broken.
12 Jesus said to them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples dare ask
Him, Who are you? knowing (for certain) that it was the Lord.
13 Then Jesus came, and took bread (broke it), and gave it to them,
and the fish likewise.
14 This was now the third time that Jesus had shown Himself to His
disciples, after He had risen from the dead.
15 So when they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter (who before Jesus'
death and resurrection told Peter, "where He was going, Peter could not
follow him but that he would afterwards", but Peter, insisted that he would
follow Him now, even laying down his life for Him, but instead he denied Him
three times), Simon, son of Jonas, Do you love Me more than these? He
said to Him, Yes, Lord; you know that I love you. Jesus said to him, Feed My
(innocent little) lambs.
16 He said to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, Do you love
Me? He saith to him, Yes, Lord; You know that I love You. Jesus said to him,
Feed My (flock, My) sheep (which are among you).
17 He said to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, Do you Love Me? Peter
was grieved because He said to him the third time, Do you Love Me? And he
said to Him, Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You. Jesus said
to him (seeing the love which the Father has bestowed upon you), Feed
My sheep.
18 With absolute certainty, I say to you, When you were young, you dressed
yourself and walked where ever you wanted: but when you are old, you will
stretch forth your hands, and another will dress you, and carry you where
you do not want to go.
19 This He spoke, signifying by what (manner of) death he should
glorify God (esteeming the care the Father has for his life above all,
stirring Peter up by way of remembrance of the Lord’s words that he would
indeed follow Jesus afterwards). And when He had spoken this, Jesus said
to him, Follow (the faith of) Me.
20 Then Peter, turning around, seeing the disciple who (knew) Jesus
loved (him) following; who also leaned on His breast at supper, and
said, Lord, who is he that betrays You?
21 Peter seeing him said to Jesus, Lord, and what about this man?
22 Jesus said to him, If I desire that he remains till I come, what (concern)
is that to you? (how can it add to or take away from the love that the
Father has bestowed upon you) You follow (the faith of) Me (that
rests in His care).
23 Then this saying went around among the brethren, that this disciple
should not die: yet Jesus did not say to him, He will not die; but, If I
will that he remains till I come, what (concern) is that to you?
24 This is the (same) disciple which testifies of these things and
wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which, if they
should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not
contain the books that should be written. Amen.
