John 9
1 And as Jesus passed by them (that wanted to stone Him), He saw a
man who was blind from his birth.
2 And His disciples asked Him, Rabbi, who trespassed, this man or his
parents that he was born blind?
3 Jesus answered, neither has this man or his parents trespassed (causing
him to be born blind): but so that you would know (that the Father is
not the One who condemns the world to death or inflicts the fruit of death
but that He has sent Me, the Word of eternal life, the light unto
the world and) I have power over the death and corruption in the world (so
that) when you see the works of God (in Me), His glory (declaring the Father’s good opinion and judgment of
man) revealed in him (you might believe upon the One who He
sent).
4 I must work the works of My Father that sent Me (of eternal life, which
is His will) while it is still daytime, the (darkness of) night
comes when no man is able to work (because he has no light in himself).
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world (that shines
in the darkness, if any man walks in the light he does not stumble).
6 When He had finished speaking, He (the One who originally formed man
from the ground) spit on the ground and made clay from His spit, and He
rubbed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
7 And He said to him, go wash in the pool of Si-lo’am (which is interpreted, Sent). The man went and washed and came back seeing. (Revealing that our eyes can also be healed from the blindness which death brought by the Word and judgment declared from the One who was sent in the Father’s name so that we might believe upon Him).
8 The neighbors and those who had previously seen
that he was blind, said, is not this the man who sat and begged?
9 Some said, this is he: and others said, he resembles him: but the man
said, I am he!
10 Therefore they said to him, how were your eyes opened?
11 He answered and said, A man called Jesus made clay (from the ground),
and anointed my eyes, and said to me, Go to the pool of Si-lo’am, and wash:
and I went and washed, and I received my sight.
12 Then said they to him, where is He? He said, I do not know.
13 They brought him that was previously blind to the Pharisees.
14 And it was the sabbath day when Jesus had made the clay and opened his
eyes.
15 Then again, he was asked by the Pharisees also how he had received his
sight. He said to them, He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I do now
see.
16 For that reason, some of the Pharisees said, this man is not of God,
because He does not keep the sabbath day (according to their carnal
interpretation). Others said, how can a man who is not of God do such
miracles? And there was a division among them.
17 They said to the blind man again, what do you say about him seeing he has
opened your eyes? He said He is a prophet (one who speaks the oracles of
God).
18 But the Jews did not believe the things about him, that he was born blind
and received his sight until they summoned his parents.
19 And they asked the parents, is this your son who you claim was born
blind? How do you explain that he now sees?
20 His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son and that
he was born blind:
21 But by what means he now sees, we do not know; or who has opened his
eyes, we do not know: he is of age; ask him: he can speak for himself.
22 His parents said this because they feared the Jews: because the Jews had
already agreed, that if any man confessed that Jesus was Christ (the
Messiah), he should be put out of the synagogue.
23 That is why his parents said, he is of age; ask him.
24 Then again, they called the man who was blind, and said to him, Give God
the praise: we know that this man (Jesus) is a depraved person.
25 And He answered saying, whether He be a depraved person or not, I do not
know: one thing I know, that, I was (all my life) blind, and now I
see.
26 Then they said to him again, what did he do to you? How did He open your
eyes?
27 He answered them, I have told you already and you did not hear (or
believe) me: why would you want to hear it again? Will you also become
His disciples?
28 Then they responded harshly to him, and said, you are His disciple (His
student); but we only follow the teaching of Moses (of whom Jesus had
already told them only spoke of Him, the One to come to whom they should
hearken).
29 We know that God spoke to Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from
where He has come (or by what authority He does these things).
30 The man answered and said to them, this is truly remarkable, that you do
not know where He is from (or by what authority He does these things),
and yet He has most certainly opened my eyes.
31 Now we (Jews) have long believed that God does not hear depraved
corrupt men (as you say this man is): but if any man be a worshipper
of God (which is to give all reverence to Him), he does (the
one thing which the Father desires) His will (calling upon the name
of the Lord, allowing the Father to serve him) and him, does God hear (for
the Father seeks such to worship Him).
32 Since the world began (when death entered) it has never been heard
that any man opened the eyes of someone who was born blind.
33 If this man were not of God (as you say), He could do nothing (He
would not have any power over death to open blind eyes).
34 They answered and said to him, (it is obvious that in being born blind)
that you were born entirely into depravity and corruption (under God’s
judgment), and you suppose to teach us? (Which judgment they
erroneously assigned to God) And they threw him out (of the temple).
35 Jesus heard that they had thrown the man out; and when He had found him,
He said to him, do you believe upon the Son of God?
36 The man answered and said, who is He, Lord, that I might believe upon
Him?
37 And Jesus said to him, you have both seen Him (that is sent in the
glory and honor of the Father), and it is He that speaks with you (right
now).
38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped Him (calling upon the
name of the Lord).
39 And Jesus said, For (the declaration of this) judgment I am come
into this world, (the Light of the world), so that they which are
blind (not seeing the Father or His loving-kindness toward them to
comfort them in their affliction) might (clearly) see (that
God is not the one who condemns them to death or inflicts them with the
fruit of death but their loving Father who has only ever wanted to be good
to them and serve them with His life); and so that those who (think
they) see (but still believe their own works can add stature to their
lives) might be made blind (to their own way which He has judged only
perishes in death).
40 And some of the Pharisees which were with Him heard these words (and
the judgment which He decreed), and said to Him, are we also blind?
41 Jesus said to them, if you were blind (to your ability to father your
own life) you would no longer look to the strength in your own hands to
establish your life (but to God alone): but now (since after
hearing My judgment) you say, we see (but still continue in the way
that perishes); therefore, the way which serves you with death remains
in you.
